Outreach

The purpose of the Outreach Team of Bothell United Methodist Church is to engage the
congregation in responding to God’s call to serve others.  Our function is to provide
opportunities, encouragement and support for persons of all ages to become actively involved
in many forms of social action and mission outreach in our local, national and world
community.

Locally we are involved in and supportive of:  Atlantic Street Center, Bothell Children’s Garden,
BUMC Garden, Church of Mary Magdalene, the Crop Walk, Hopelink, Kairos, Puget Sound
Blood Bank, Tent City 4 and more.

Nationally, we support the United Methodist Committee on Relief and Volunteer’s in Missions
(VIM) Teams.

Internationally, we are in a covenant relationship supporting Devi Bhujel, a Methodist
missionary in Nepal.  We also support Hope for the Children of Africa and sponsor three
children in the Jamaa Letu orphanage. Our congregation is in the process of fundraising for the
building of Jamaa Letu II, a new orphanage for boys.

Last year we added the “Green Team”, a group of people who work to stay informed about ways
the church can be environmentally responsible and implement them.

In 2009 we to established a Community Pea Patch-style garden open to BUMC and the greater
Bothell Community. Gardeners grew food for their families and the Hopelink Food bank. We
hope to add additional beds in 2010.
