Children

The nurturing of children in their spiritual growth is vital, and we offer a variety of opportunities for children pre-school age to grade 6. On the firm foundation of Bible stories and concepts, our children develop a rich spiritual life in the Wesleyan tradition. Bothell UMC Kids on Sunday mornings

We offer an exciting, interactive Children’s Church at 9am during our traditional, Roots service, and a hands-on, creative Prayground experience in the sanctuary at 10:30 for our contemporary, Wings service.

Children’s Church: Offered at the Roots Service (9am). We all start in the sanctuary for worship and following Children’s time, kids have the option to join us for Children’s Church and are led out of the sanctuary by a Children’s team member.

Preschool & Kindergarten: Our new Preschool & Kindergarten class (children 3 to 5 or 6 years old) are now gathering to explore God through play, movement and art in the fabulous and newly remodeled room 108.

1st-3rd grade: Our 1st-3rd graders are exploring God's world through the lens of the Spark Rotation curriculum. This gives us the opportunity to focus on one Bible story for the whole month, while we explore it from different perspectives each week such as: Art, Creative Drama, Games and Science. This means our leaders shine as they serve in an area they are gifted in and gives children the ability to engage with the story in many ways.

4th-6th graders: Our BUMY JV crew meets in room 208 (off Fellowship Hall) and is continuing to use the Submerge curriculum, which engages them in faithful discussions and explores their relationships with God, their community and the world through creative exercises and interactive lessons.

Prayground: Offered at the Wings Service (10:30am) Following Children’s time, kids (as well as people of all ages) are invited to the Prayground, a space on the side of the sanctuary with hands-on faith-based activities that encourage us to explore, create and be in community during the worship service. It is an opportunity for all to worship together in one space; highlighting the many different ways we connect with God and with each other.

Nursery: Offered at the Roots (9am) & Wings (10:30am) Services

Our Nursery is a safe and welcoming space for littles ones (designed for children 6 weeks-3 years old) to experience church, community and most importantly God’s love! We use resources from a program called Frolic to introduce our babies and toddlers to "little steps towards big faith". Frolic also offers resources to support families as, together, we nurture the many ways young children are developing physically, emotionally, cognitively, and socially.

BUMY (bumē) JV

A group for kids in grades 4-6 that meets the first and third Sundays from 6:30pm-8:00pm during the regular school year. This is a fun time to make new friends, pray, talk about a Bible story, play, and eat together!

Acolytes

Boys and girls in grades 3-6 bring the light of Christ into, and out of the sanctuary for our Sunday morning services. Children are trained in the fall by our Lead Pastor about worship and how to participate in this special way.

Music

We have 3 dynamic children's choirs: Butterflies (Pre-K - K), Sunshine Singers (Grades 1-3), and Rainbows (Grades 4-6). They sing songs, play games, and share the gift of music in worship and special programs. Children's choirs meet the 1st and 3rd Sundays at 5:30 pm.

Vacation Bible School

We offer a four or five day camp for children pre-K – grade 6 the second week in July (July 9-13, 2018). VBS features Bible stories, games, crafts, snacks, songs, and lots of laughs. Best of all, every year has its own theme that helps kids learn more about how God wants them to live. To learn more or register, click here.

Summer Camps

Summer Camp is a time of sunshine, hikes, craft projects, swimming, horseback riding, songs around the campfire and so much more. For kids at BUMC, it’s even better. Summer camp also means learning more about their relationship with God and making new friends at one of the spectacular United Methodist camps in the Pacific Northwest.

There are four marvellous camps to choose from located in some of the most breathtaking spots in Idaho and Washington. These camps have programs during the summer for children from early grade school age through high school. There are also camps for families and seniors. Camperships are available.

Safe Sanctuaries

Bothell United Methodist Church believes it is our duty to guard and protect the children, youth, and vulnerable adults given to our care. To ensure our congregation is a place of safety, trust, and compassion, we practice Safe Sanctuaries which includes background checks of staff and adult volunteers, preventative education, and proper response to disclosures of abuse. Through our policy, we hope people become more aware of what it takes to keep our community and children safe.
